Binomial Name: Orycteropus afer Identification: Large size. Elongated pig-like snout. Tubular ears. Generally heavy build. Walks with an arched back. Weight: Males +/- 70 kg (155 lbs), females +/- 70 kg (155 lbs) Gestation: 7 months Young: Single young Habitat: Wide variety of habitats, the limiting factor being the availability of food. They show a preference for open woodland, sparse scrub and grassland. Diet: Mainly ants and termites. They will occasionally eat other insects and the fruit of the wild cucumber.
