Binomial Name: Galago moholi Identification: Small size. Long, fluffy tail. Large, mobile, thin ears. Forward-facing eyes. Prodigious jumping ability and arboreal habitat. Weight: Males +/- 150 g (0.33 lbs), females +/- 150 g (0.33 lbs) Gestation: 4 months Young: Litters of 1-2 Habitat: Woodland savanna, particularly acacia and riverine woodland. Diet: Gum or exuding sap of trees, particularly acacias, but also insects. Red List Status: Least Concern |
Common Name: Thick-tailed Bushbaby (Brown Greater Galago)
Binomial Name: Otolemur crassicaudatus Identification: Superficially cat-like when seen on the ground, with the tail usually held erect. Uniformly grey to grey-brown. Long, fairly bushy tail, same colour as the body. Large thin ears. Big eyes. Usually seen in trees. Weight: Males +/- 1,5 kg (3.3 lbs), females +/- 1,5 kg (3.3 lbs) Gestation: 4 months Young: Litters of 1-2 Habitat: Forest, woodland savanna and wooded riverine margins. Diet: Fruits, tree gum (particularly acacias), but also insects, reptiles and birds. Red List Status: Least Concern |
