Binomial Name: Civettictis civetta Identification: Large size. Black, white and grey facial markings. Grey body, heavily marked with black spots, blotches and irregular stripes. Black and white neck bands. Bushy tail with white bands below and black tip. Walks with its back arched and its head held low. Weight: Males +/- 15 kg (33 lbs), females +/- 15 kg (33 lbs) Gestation: 2 months Young: Litters of 2-4 Habitat: Fairly wide habitat tolerance but preference for more densely vegetated areas, for example open woodland. Must have permanent water. Diet: Insects, invertebrates, wild fruits, small rodents, reptiles, birds and carrion. Red List Status: Least Concern |
