Black face below the eyes, paler above the eyes. Weight: Males +/- 4 kg (9 lbs), females +/- 4 kg (9 lbs) Gestation: 2 months Young: Litter of 4-6 pups Habitat: Open country, such as short scrub, grassveld and sparsely wooded areas. Absent from mountains, dense woodland and forest. Diet: Mostly insects (termites in particular) and other invertebrates; also, reptiles, rodents, and wild fruits. Red List Status: Least Concern |

Binomial Name: Vulpes chama Identification: Typical fox-like appearance. Long bushy tail. Greyish back and sides. Light-coloured legs. Muzzle generally light in colour. Weight: Males +/- 4 kg (9 lbs), females +/- 4 kg (9 lbs) Gestation: 2 months Young: Litter of 4-6 pups Habitat: Open areas, such as grassland and arid scrub. Diet: Mainly insects, invertebrates and rodents; also, reptiles, birds, carrion and wild fruits. Red List Status: Least Concern |
