Binomial Name: Atelerix frontalis Identification: Small size. Covered in short spines. Pointed face. White stripe from ear to ear across the forehead. Weight: Males +/- 400 g (1 lb), females +/- 400 g (1 lb) Gestation: 1 month Young: Litters of 1-9, usually 4 Habitat: Wide variety of habitats, but absent from desert and high-rainfall areas. Their habitat must provide suitable dry cover for lying up during the day. Diet: The hedgehog eats a wide variety of foods, including insects, millipedes, earthworms, mice, lizards, fungi and certain fruits. It can eat up to 30% of its body weight in one night.
