Binomial Name: Cercopithecus albogularis Identification: Typical monkey appearance. Much darker than the Vervet Monkey, being black on the legs, shoulders, and last two-thirds on the tail. Long hair on the cheeks. Weight: Males +/- 10 kg (22 lbs), females +/- 5 kg (11 lbs) Gestation: 4-5 months Young: Single infant Habitat: High forest, forest margins and riverine gallery forest. May forage in more open woodland, but always close to a forest. Diet: Feeds on a wide range of plants, including fruits, flowers, gum, leaves and seeds. Sometimes eats insects. Binomial Name: Chlorocebus pygerythrus Identification: Typical monkey appearance. Grizzled grey hair on the head, back and flanks. Black face with a rim of pale to white hair. Long tail. Lives in troops. Weight: Males +/- 6 kg (13 lbs), females +/- 4 kg (9 lbs) Gestation: 7 months Young: Single infant Habitat: Savanna and riverine woodland. Diet: Mainly vegetarian, but will also eat a wide range of invertebrates and small vertebrates such as fledgling birds. Fruits, flowers, leaves, gum, and seeds form the bulk of their food.
