Diet: Primarily grasses, but will browse on occasion. Red List Status: Least Concern |

Binomial Name: Connochaetes taurinus Identification: Forequarters higher and much heavier than the hindquarters. Dark grey, with some brown in younger animals. Dark vertical stripes on neck and chest. Broad snout. Superficially buffalo-like horns, but much smaller and lighter. Black tail. Weight: Males +/- 250 kg (551 lbs), females +/- 180 kg (397 lbs) Gestation: 8-9 months Young: Single young Habitat: Savanna woodland and open grassland. Drinking water is essential. Diet: Primarily grazers, with a preference for short green grass. Red List Status: Least Concern |
